Issue
The existing roofing system was comprised of a built-up roofing membrane and a shingle roofing system. The current roofing was well beyond its useful service life and was in need of replacement. The design engineer had included the complete removal of all existing transite wall panels and the installation of new fireproof panels. Given the age of the building, all perimeter edge, counter flashings, and other vertical penetrations were completely replaced.
The REMTEK Recommendation
REMTEK removed all roofing to the existing deck and repaired all damaged wood decking prior to installation of the new roofing. Given the existing age and construction of the wood-framed structure, it was decided to install a new 20-Year-Warranted-Polyglass ADESO self-adhered membrane that could be installed without using the common open flame techniques.
All existing wall panels were removed and replaced with new fire-rated panels as well as the proper counter flashings in all transition areas. The Polyglass modified roofing system was also an excellent solution for the upper roof valley areas. Given the amount of snow that sits in these valleys, it was imperative to provide a water-tight solution in this area.
